We grew up in our families’ businesses, went on to consult to large and small enterprise, and worked inside corporate Australia.

Across those worlds, we kept seeing the same thing: businesses between $1-20m facing the same commercial challenges and opportunities as larger organisations, but without the same access to support.

For leaders whose energy goes into the creative, technical, or specialist work that makes their business worth building, that gap can be the difference between scale and stall.

We’re not a traditional consultancy. We embed in your business, stay across what’s happening, and give you the commercial thinking that changes outcomes. If it’s outside our lane, we know who to call.

How we’ve helped

“James and his team have been a valuable addition to the team of experts assisting our clients with their projects. They provide a high level of innovative and considered advice on complex commercial matters. Their ability to translate project drivers into plain language, identifying risks and benefits that might otherwise go unnoticed, is particularly valuable.

James and his team are highly recommended for both corporate and small business advisory services.”

“Working closely with me as Indigenous Initiatives & Innovation’s founder, James and Samuel helped develop a clear operating plan and strategy that balances III’s commercial goals with our purpose as a Torres Strait Islander-owned and led venture focused on Northern Australia. They also continue to provide commercial support and advice to put the right commercial structures in place to support long-term business sustainability and performance and to navigate the day-to-day business with confidence.

Torque brings clear thinking, patience, and a strong understanding of context. They have been a trusted partner in building a business that is both commercially sound and purpose-driven.”

Kenny Bedford

Founder, Indigenous Initiatives & Innovation

“James and his team worked with us to develop a clear, structured growth strategy for our data consulting practice — grounded in practical choices about where and how to compete. They brought a deep understanding of the commercial drivers in a professional services setting and where we were as a growing business. We don’t typically engage external advisors, but the quality of their thinking made it an easy decision. The result was excellent work that has given us clarity, focus, and confidence going into our next phase.”

Sammy Liu

Managing Director, Dataly Actuarial

“Launching the Scenic Rim Farming Expo (now in its fourth year), James and his team worked alongside me and our inaugural committee to turn the concept into a structured, commercially sound event. As a flagship initiative of the Lions Club of Harrisville and the Rotary Club of Fassifern, delivered in partnership with Scenic Rim Regional Council, there were multiple stakeholders and governance and operational realities to navigate. They brought structure and commercial rigour — writing the event strategy, supporting budgeting, leading funding applications, developing a MARCOMS plan, and building a clear implementation plan. The result was an Expo that launched with credibility and has endured as a genuine community and business initiative. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again.”

Brian Lawson

President, Scenic Rim Farming Expo

“ISP has been in the seafood industry for over 40 years. We run a complex operation across retail, wholesale, food service, and export — and we’ve always had good data to work with. Torque has helped us drive more value out of that data, back into our operations and bottom line.
James and Samuel understand our business and the complexity of the industry we operate in. They’ve helped us sharpen our pricing and margin frameworks, build financial scenarios that reflect how our business moves, and bring clarity and structure to the commercial decisions that matter — including how we identify and adapt to emerging technology and AI to stay ahead.”
